Planning Explorer - planning applications and supporting documentation
Planning Explorer is changing!
We’ve listened to what you’ve had to say and as a result we’re making changes to these web pages. Some of the improvements we’re hoping to make includes better tracking of applications, publication of responses from consultations and improved presentation of documents.

Interactive maps are simple to use, and work in a similar way to other internet mapping systems. To help you navigate these maps, a user guide is available.
By accessing the maps you confirm that you have read and agreed to the Barnsley Interactive Maps disclaimer.
Alternatively, you can view all recent planning decisions here.
Planning Explorer and Electronic Case Files
Planning Explorer gives you access to an up to date online database of Planning Applications submitted to Barnsley Council.
Planning Explorer allows you to:
- View information relating to submitted Planning Applications.
- Submit comments about an application
- Clicking on the " View Application Forms" and " View Plans and other Supporting Documents" links within Planning Explorer will enable you to view Electronic Case Files on line. These include plans, application forms, and other supporting documentations.
This site is open to members of the general public. Contributors should, therefore, refrain from making any comments that could be viewed as defamatory or prejudicial as this could result in action being taken against the contributor concerned. Submissions containing such comments will be removed from the site.
The service continues to be developed, at the present time it only contains key planning application information and some associated documents/plans.
Any submitted Planning Applications that are missing from Planning Explorer are applications that are invalid, i.e applications where we are waiting for further information/documents. These applications will appear on a future list when the application is registered.
Applications, where the decision is delegated to the Assistant Director, are marked with a 'D'
Applications which need to be refereed to the Council's Planning Regulatory Board are marked with a 'C'.
NB it is possible that some of the applications marked as delegated may be referred to the Planning Regulatory Board for determination.
Under normal circumstances, the new Planning Application information will be available for viewing within 5 working days of receipt of a valid application.
No responsibility will be taken for any errors or omissions in the planning information obtained from Planning Explorer. Similarly, the information contained within Planning Explorer does not constitue in any way a formal notification of a planning decision, and as such any actions taken as a result of information displayed on the site are undertaken entirely at the viewer's own risk.
