Information about our libraries, where they are located, opening hours and what you can do there.
The Barnsley Library Service is free to join and open to everyone. When you become a member you will have access to a wide range of books, information and entertainment in print, digital and audio.
All of our libraries offer free access to computers and the internet, with help available for you to go online. We also offer various classes and activiites and there are meeting rooms for hire.
We have collections for children in all or our libraries. In the school holidays and throughout the summer we plan a range of exciting and popular activities and events for children and families.

Joining the Library
You can join online by filling in our short library application form
Or you can visit any library to join in person by bringing proof of your name and address with you.
Children and young people under the age of 16 will need a parent or guardian to sign the form on their behalf.
You can use the online Library Catalogue to find a book, renew the books you've borrowed and to manage your account with Barnsley Libraries. There is a small charge for books reserved online. There is also an email facility, for you to receive a notification of books awaiting collection or other reminders. Our library staff can help to set this up for you.
We have a selection of online resources, such as encylopedias and dictionaries, most of which can be used at home or alternatively in any library. We also offer Ebooks and E-audio books for you to download for free at home.
