The Barnsley Library Service is free to join and open to everyone. When you become a member you will have access to a wide range of books, information and entertainment in print, digital and audio.
All of our libraries offer free access to computers and the internet, with help available for you to go online. We also offer various classes and activities and there are meeting rooms for hire.
We have collections for children in all or our libraries. In the school holidays and throughout the summer we plan a range of exciting and popular activities and events for children and families.
We have libraries in the following areas:
If you can't visit a library, because you have mobility problems or are older we have a home delivery service.
You can use the online Library Catalogue to find a book, renew the books you've borrowed and to manage your account with Barnsley Libraries. There is a small charge for books reserved online. There is also an email facility, for you to receive a notification of books awaiting collection or other reminders. Our library staff can help to set this up for you.
We have a selection of online resources, such as encylopaedias and dictionaries, most of which can be used at home or alternatively in any library. We also offer E-books and E-audio books for you to download for free at home.
In the following libraries we offer a full range of council services, either by making you an appointment to see an officer, or where you can access them using our freephone service:
